Coed Varsity Rowing vs Mid Atlantic Prep League Championships on 05/03/2025
The girls placed second out of five teams and the boys placed fourth out of five teams.
With the strong southwest winds whipping up whitecaps in the first 750 meters of the normal race course, it was decided to shorten racing from 1500m to 1000m and run racing in the opposite direction, from the normal 2000m finish to the 1000m mark.
Everyone adapted well to all of the changes. The girls finished third in the 3V and 2V races, consistent with previous results this spring. The 1V found an entirely new gear to finish a very close second to Blair.. Blair beat Peddie by 20+ seconds last weekend at Garden States. Todau, that gap closed to 6.7″. It was an inspired race.
The MAPL Championship is determined by a points system which includes the 1V, 2V and 3V crews. The Peddie girls tied for points with Lawrenceville. By virtue of the fact that the 1V beat their 1V, 2nd place was awarded to Peddie. This is a significant accomplishment considering Peddie had to borrow a novice to complete our third four, and both Blair and Lawrenceville’s rosters could field 4th and 5th boats.
Final Girls MAPL ranking:
1. Blair Academy
2. Peddie
3. Lawrenceville
4. The Hun School of Princeton
5. The Hill School
With remarkable poise, the boys adjusted well to the shortening of the race from 1500 to 1K and starting the races in reverse direction.
The boys finished fourth in the 1V, 3rd in the 2V, fourth in the 3V, and sixth in the 4V.
Though the boys would have liked to finish higher, spirits were good as they raced to very tight margins in the first three boats with the boys 1V only four seconds off of Lawrenceville, compared to 20 seconds earlier in the season. Likewise, the 2V was only six seconds off the first and second place crews.
The Final Boys MAPL Ranking:
1. Blair Academy
2. Lawrenceville School
3. The Hill School
4. Peddie
5. The Hun School of Princeton
