The Peddie swimmers showcased remarkable grit and versatility at the MAPL meet, stepping up in a variety of events outside of our typical lineup to support the team’s efforts, head coach Emmett Walling said. In an impressive performance, the girls team set three new MAPL meet records:
Girls 200-yard medley relay: Hannah Bateman (Backstroke, 25.60), Mary Bao (Breaststroke, 29.57), Zoe Tashjian (Butterfly, 26.01) and Lola Early (Freestyle, 23.77).
Additionally, Hannah Bateman set two individual meet records in the following events:
Girls 200-yard IM: 2:04.73
Girls 100-yard backstroke: 55.10
On the individual side, freshman Pablo Li had a standout performance, winning the boys 50-yard freestyle with a notable time of 21.41, and just narrowly missing first in the boys 100-yard freestyle. He was on the heels of Mercersburg Academy post-grad Sebastien de Fabrique (46.61), finishing second with a time of 46.89.
For the girls, Lola Early had a strong showing, winning both the girls 50-yard freestyle (23.95) and girls 100-yard freestyle (52.14). Junior Shea McGlynn also posted a fantastic swim in the girls 500-freestyle, setting a season-best of 5:04.53. And to finish off the meet, Mary Bao earned a win in the girls 100-yard breaststroke and sent the team into the girls 400-yard freestyle relay with great energy.
