AP Chemistry

Prerequisite: Honors Biology with a minimum average of B OR Biology with a minimum average of A- AND Honors Chemistry with a minimum average of B+ OR Quantitative Chemistry with a minimum average of A-. Problem Solving: Algebra 2 & Geometry with a minimum average of A OR Problem Solving: Advanced Algebra 2 & Geometry with a minimum average of B+ OR Advanced Pre-Calculus with a minimum average of B+ OR Honors Pre-Calculus with a minimum average of B. Demonstrated strong work ethic and an ability to work independently as evidenced by teacher comments and homework/effort grades and continued strong academic work through spring term.  

This rigorous, fast-paced course is designed to prepare students for the AP Chemistry Exam. Following the outline of the College Board, this second year chemistry course investigates the fundamentals of inorganic and physical chemistry. Topics include qualitative and quantitative aspects of chemical reactivity, gases, kinetics, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and an introduction to organic chemistry. This course is recommended for motivated students who intend to pursue chemistry, engineering or life-science (including pre-medical) study in college.

Notes: Students taking this course are required to take the AP Chemistry exam.
