AP Physics I

Terms: 3
Grades: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Chemistry with a minimum average of B+ (B for Honors Chemistry). Problem Solving: Algebra 2 & Geometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus with a minimum A- average OR Problem Solving: Honors Algebra 2 & Geometry, Advanced Pre-Calculus, OR AP Calculus with a minimum B average. Sophomores who wish to take the course should also have a B+ average in all other courses.

In this course students will learn the fundamental concepts in physics and then use those concepts to describe and predict events, natural or otherwise, by utilizing the mathematical relationships between motion, force, energy and time. AP Physics 1 is designed for students with strong aptitude for and interest in the sciences and who have strong ability in mathematics. AP Physics 1 is a survey course of the concepts of classical physics, including Newtonian Mechanics, Electricity, Waves, Sound and Light. This course provides a strong foundation for further study of physics in one of Peddie€™s more advanced-level physics courses and also in coursework at the college level.

Note: Any student interested in taking AP Physics C should take AP Physics I if they meet the criteria OR they may take Physics and will need an A average to take AP Physics C in the future. Students taking this course are required to take the AP Physics I exam. Formerly Honors Physics.
