Engineering Design I – Robotics

Credits: 3
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12, PG
Notes: Students do not need to be on the FIRST Robotics team to enroll in this course.

This course is an introduction to the engineering Design Process. Students will learn to use the Design Process through hands-on activities to develop the skills used by engineers to solve challenges. Extensive development of Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills using Onshape 3D modeling software will be practiced throughout the course. Students will learn how to design and implement mechanical power systems, perform structural analysis, use pneumatics and control systems. Fabrication techniques using manual and computer numeric control (CNC) machines such as 3D printers, laser cutters and milling machines will be introduced and incorporated with student design projects. The Engineering Design Course is open to any student interested in learning about engineering, and developing their skills through active learning and hands-on projects.
