Students develop the four basic skills of speaking, writing, listening, and reading and are introduced to francophone culture. The main objective in the classroom is effective communication and language comprehension. Students are encouraged to actively take risks and make mistakes in order to develop their language skills. In addition, students interact with each other regularly in partner and group activities using authentic resources and technology. Thematic units, highlighting francophone culture, present grammar and vocabulary. As the year progresses, French becomes the principal language in the classroom. French 1 lays the foundation for students to attain success in the upper levels.
