A tense and hostile period framed by the use of propaganda and foreign policy, this elective will study the roots of the Cold War, the ways in which the two sides (the Soviet€led communist bloc and the non€communist west) came into conflict, and the end of this period of hostilities with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Assessment of this conflict will also include an analysis of proxy wars which were fought in parts of Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, the Middle East, and Asia.
