Modern Irish History

This course will examine Irish history from the 19th century to the present. Ireland has had a glorious history that is rich in music, literature, and scenic beauty. However, it has also seen its share of challenges such as imperialism, war, revolution and religious strife. This course will analyze significant events from Irish history such as, the Great Famine, 1848 Revolution, the Irish diaspora, the Easter Rising, the Troubles, the Good Friday Agreement, and the effects of Brexit. Special attention will be paid to religious division, the changing role of women, and the fight for civil rights.
