Physics First (Pilot)

Terms: 3
Grades: 9

With an emphasis on inquiry, this laboratory-oriented course explores the physical laws of nature and the techniques of science. This course provides foundational science skills needed for further courses of study including laboratory measurements/procedures and developing mathematical and scientific models. This is an introductory mechanics class that will investigate the physics concepts surrounding kinematics, dynamics, energy, and momentum. The inquiry-based techniques of instruction encourage students to think through problems, develop analytical skills and apply their knowledge to familiar and unfamiliar phenomena. Specific skills practiced in this course include detailed observation, hypothesis development, experimental design, organized data collection, data analysis, graphing, and troubleshooting when problems are encountered.
