Spring Elective: Contemporary Plays and Playwriting

This course immerses students in the fundamentals and exciting nature of contemporary playwriting, by utilizing Aristotle’s Poetics as a lens with which to examine the dramatic techniques of leading American playwrights, such as Suzan Lori€Parks, Sarah Ruhl, Lucas Hnath and Annie Baker. Further, students will develop their own dramatic voice through regular creative€writing exercises and the subsequent composition of their own one€act play. This course will also include instruction from visiting playwrights and professionals from NYC and Philadelphia. Lastly, the class will culminate in an exciting dramatic reading of each student’s work, brought to life by actors from the Honors Theater Ensemble.
 

This course also counts as a Peddie Creative Writing class for the Creative Writing Signature experience.
