Elizabeth Duffy, Wearing Opening Reception

December 2December 20

Trained in sculpture, painting, drawing, jewelry and textile conservation, Elizabeth Duffy is an artist whose compulsive process and love of material culture drives her to mine the revelatory in the ordinary. Her work is influenced by feminist art, an itinerant way of life and the confluence of art with everyday life. About her practice, Elizabeth Duffy writes, “I create invented controllable worlds that allude to the apparent comforts of home, to reveal its contradictions, pathos and bewildering humor … I am fascinated by how things are made and how taking them apart reveals hidden worlds and the ingenuity, poetry and striving of the human imagination. In my current project, Wearing, I unravel the braided rugs common in old houses, to make them into what they may have been. Through this work I acknowledge the labor of anonymous women makers through time.”
