Chapel Program
Dedicated in 1951 to honor the young Peddie men who died in World War II and funded by the donations of fellow Peddie alumni, the Ayer Memorial Chapel stands as a monument to the school’s deep and rich history. As Peddie has evolved into a multifaith institution, the chapel has remained a literal and figurative centerpiece of our campus, symbolizing our commitment to community and reflection.
Twice a week, the Peddie community gathers in the chapel to focus on one of the school’s core values: balance. During these gatherings, students and faculty stand before their entire community to perform music and share their experiences at Peddie and beyond. These chapel talks are as diverse as our student body itself: often personal, occasionally humorous and always deeply moving. The chapel program provides a unique platform for individuals to express their thoughts, showcase their talents and connect with their peers on a deeper level.
When a student stands at the podium in the Ayer Memorial Chapel, they stand on the shoulders of giants. Our chapel has hosted presidents, governors, scholars, scientists, friends, alumni and – in 1957 – a young Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This historic venue not only connects us to our past but also inspires our future. By inviting influential speakers to Peddie, we provide our students with the opportunity to engage with motivated, driven adults who embody the values and aspirations we seek to instill in them.
Ayer Memorial Chapel is more than just a building; it is a place where the Peddie community comes together to reflect, celebrate and grow. Whether through the powerful words of a chapel talk or the inspiring presence of a guest speaker, the chapel continues to play a crucial role in shaping the experiences and values of our students.
