Edward W. Clark, Class of 1935
Ed was a key player on the undefeated 1934 Peddie golf team, and he returned the following year to lead the team to another undefeated year and the Eastern Interscholastic title. The 1935 Peddie team set an Eastern Interscholastic record in winning the even while defeating an exceptional Lawrenceville team, which also bettered the old record.
Ed also played varsity football and basketball in the “offseason.”
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Ed proved he was an all-around Peddie student by earning high academic honors and induction into the Cum Laude society. His other extracurricular efforts included serving as the activities editor for the Old Gold and Blue.
After graduation from Peddie, Ed went on to a distinguished athletic career at Princeton where he captained the golf team to an Eastern Intercollegiate title.
In recognition of his overall athletic career and performance in college, Ed received the John Plant Award recognizing “the Peddie graduate who during the past year was outstanding in college athletics” at Peddie’s 75th Anniversary event held at the Waldorf Astoria in 1939. Ed joined other Peddie Sports Hall of Famers Larry Kelley ’33 and William S. Thompson ’35 as recipients of the award.
Ed Clark represents the finest tradition of Peddie students who combine superior athletic achievement with outstanding scholastic excellence.
