Flex Time: Peddie’s Fitness Center Set for Multi-Million Dollar Renovation
The school has outgrown the fitness center, which is housed within the Ian H. Graham ’50 Athletic Center. The $7.4M project will result in the Zhao Li Family Fitness & Exercise Center, complete with a range of impressive upgrades, including:
- A redesigned fitness center for top-tier athletic conditioning and community wellness.
- A second floor with additional cardio machines.
- Golf simulators for year-round training.
- An erg room for year-round rowing training.
- A multi-purpose space for classes such as yoga and dance.
- Upgraded HVAC systems.
- Two elevators, allowing greater accessibility to the entire Athletic Center.
- A flexible conference space for group and team meetings.
Peddie alumnus and trustee Rob Ruberton ’93 acknowledged the project’s importance and the critical role athletics play in a well-rounded education. “The education I got in this building was as important to me as the education I got in the classroom. Athletics at Peddie taught me determination, perseverance, time management and sacrificing now for the future. It’s been an enormous part of my character, and I think it made me who I am.”
Head of School Peter Quinn P’15 ’18 ’21 stressed how vital the renovation will be to the community’s health and well-being. “The athletics facilities are used by over 50 teams and physical activity programs every year,” he said. “The updates to the fitness center will provide our student-athletes with the space and equipment to compete at the very highest level. I am grateful to the executive committee of the board of trustees for fast-tracking this project, which represents one of the priorities of our historic One Peddie campaign.”
With a completion date set for the first half of 2024, Peddie has already raised $6.3M for the renovation from generous alumni, alumni parents and current parents. More naming opportunities are available for individuals, families, alumni classes or groups of alumni interested in creating a legacy that supports Peddie athletics.
