George Weed, Class of 1918
He took over the track program in 1928 and coached the sport for 30 years. During that time he saw the building of the Annenberg Track and its impact on Peddie athletics. Coach Weed saw every school record broken at least once by athletes under his tutelage. His indoor track teams won state championships in 1929 and 1949, while the outdoor team tied Lawrenceville for the title in 1938.
George founded the Peddie cross country program in 1926 and had unbeaten teams in 1939, 1940 and 1945. Many of his athletes said that Mr. Weed was one of the finest track technicians they had ever known.
Coach Weed stressed excellence, technique and sportsmanship as he developed some of the greatest track athletes at Peddie.
