Haley Peters, Class of 2010

Haley Peters, Class of 2010

Before the lights went on and before the lights were extinguished, Haley Peters ’10 was in the gym.

The 6-foot-3 four-year starter led Peddie varsity girls basketball to an 88-17 record during her four years. She led the Falcons to their 14th straight Prep A state crown and 12th Mid-Atlantic Prep League title her senior year. Individually, she concluded her Peddie career second on the Falcons’ all-time scoring list with 1,551 points and also totaled 1,116 rebounds.

She was a two-time New Jersey State Prep and Mid-Atlantic Prep League Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. She was also a four-time First Team New Jersey All-State member and four-time Mid-Atlantic Prep League First Team All-League recipient. During her extraordinary senior year, Peters garnered NJ Gatorade Player of the Year, only the second Peddie player ever to receive the honor. She was also named Parade Magazine’s Second-Team All-American and joined an exclusive club as the school’s third McDonald’s High School All-American.

“I was grateful for Haley being on our team because I don’t think I would have been the player I was without her,” Peddie teammate Alex Smith ’10 said.

Peters was also valedictorian of her class.

“She’s just always very well-prepared athletically and academically and socially. She is mature beyond her years,” Former Head Coach Sean Casey said while coaching Peters. “This is a kid who is a great leader on the court and in the classroom. We see a lot of talent here, but she’s a kid that performs at the highest level in multiple arenas.”

Peters credits having teammates who pushed her and would push back against taking herself too seriously, which made her a better teammate and made them a better team.

“I was really lucky to be around a group of people who made it fun,” she said. “By the time we were seniors, we spent basically all year together, it just made it enjoyable and made basketball fun and I’ve been riding that wave for a long time since then.”

Peters continued her success in college as a standout at Duke University from 2010-14 and closed out her Duke career with 1,367 points and 826 rebounds to rank 16th and sixth, respectively, at the time, within the Duke leaderboard. She earned All-ACC Tournament second team honors in 2013-2014, All-ACC second team honors in 2012-2013 and was named All-ACC third team in 2011-2012. She led the Blue Devils to two ACC Tournament Championships, three ACC regular season titles and three trips to the NCAA Elite Eight.

She went on to see WNBA action with the San Antonio Silver Stars (2016-17), Washington Mystics (2017) and Atlanta Dream (2019). She succeeded overseas as well, where she won the 2025 EuroCup Women’s Basketball Championship in April 2025.

Peters signed a Training Camp contract with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun in February 2025.

“I don’t know if it was worse having her on your team, because we had to compete against her every day in practice,” Peddie teammate Bridgette McKnight ’10 said. “While in games, it was great. Having to compete with that level of intensity and having to bring it every day is definitely why we were lucky to have Haley.”
