Jodi Navta, Class of 1993

An outstandingly versatile swimmer, Jodi Navta ’93 used her exceptional talent to help shape some of the most dominating teams in the nation. She was a key contributor to the success of the team for the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons when Peddie captured Easterns and Swimming World’s Mythical National Championships. For her splendid resume, Navta was honored by the Newark Star-Ledger as one of the Top Ten N.J. Swimmers of the 1990s.

From the individual medley to breaststroke and distance freestyle, her sheer range of events gave Peddie a decided advantage at major meets. She burst onto the national scene during her freshman year when she scored in the finals of the 200 individual medley at the 1990 U.S. Open in Nashville. Arguably one of the greatest high school teams of all-time, the 1990 squad finished runner-up to Mission Viejo at the Open.

A four-year independent school All-American in multiple events, Navta held the school’s 200 breaststroke record for 16 years until it was broken in the fall of 2007. Her powerful swimming credentials landed her a full athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan.

Navta was a member of the 1994-95 Wolverine team that did what no other team had ever accomplished at the NCAA championships: take one of the top three spots from perennial powerhouses Stanford, Texas and Florida. Michigan finished second to Stanford by only 19 points. In addition to her All-American swimming accolades, Navta was a four-time Academic All-American, a Michigan Academic Achievement Award recipient, an Olympic Trial qualifier and a member of the 1995 U.S. National Team, Fukuoka City, Japan.

For her outstanding contributions to the sport of swimming, determination in the pool and commitment to academic excellence, Peddie is honored to welcome Jodi Navta to the Sports Hall of Fame.
