Kenneth E. Eiker, Class of 1949
He was respected as a hard-nosed competitor who was nonetheless unfailingly fair in his play. Kenny counts his Peddie days as key factors in helping him mold his life, thanks to the lofty examples set by his coaches – Evans Hicks and Oscar “Ozzie” Rand in soccer, Bill Thompson and Dean Bair in basketball, and Clinton Sprout in baseball.
The examples of sportsmanship and leadership shown by his coaches made a great impression on Kenny as he went on to a stellar career of teaching and coaching at Hightstown High School – where he and his players followed examples he so admired in his Peddie coaches. Captaining the undefeated soccer team and the basketball team and winning the Molinet Plaque as the school’s outstanding basketball player were highlights of his Peddie sports career.
At Rutgers, Kenny continued to play all three sports – captaining the soccer team in his senior year.
Ken Eiker has always been a great credit to his family, his community, his coaches, his vocation and – most certainly – to Peddie!
