Lauren Sellers, Class of 1996: Soccer
Sellers is one of the most talented soccer players in Peddie history. Despite only playing for three years, she remains the all-time leader in points scored (103) and assists (48) in the program’s history. She is second in career goals (55) and second in goal scoring in a single season, tallying 24 goals in her senior year. She was recognized multiple times by a variety of All-Area and All-Prep teams throughout her career. In her senior year she was recognized as a first-team All-State player by the NJ Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association and by the Associated Press. Sellers went on to a highly successful career at Villanova University where at the time is ranked sixth all-time in career points and fourth all-time in career assists. She was captain of the Villanova team in her senior season.
Perhaps more important than these individual accomplishments, Sellers contributed immensely to the cultivation of a winning attitude at Peddie and helped build the foundation of a program that lasted far beyond her years in a Peddie uniform. On the field, whether in practice or in a game, Lauren brought an incredible intensity and focus to all that she did. She played soccer with near reckless abandon, and her blazing speed, powerful strength and innate sense of the game were difficult to defend. These qualities also served as an example to all her teammates; Sellers raised the quality of play to those around her. She encouraged others to share her passion and her commitment to the team. Lauren Sellers was a leader.
Despite the power of her concentration and seriousness of purpose on the field, Sellers was equally remarkable for her sense of humor, her easygoing nature and the true joy she took in interactions with all of her teammates. She kept the team loose at stressful moments and sincerely appreciated the human value of being part of a team.
