Peter J. Shuman, Class of 1966
As an all-star in baseball, Pete captained the team leading it to an NJISAA State Championship and a 16-1 season record, one of Peddie’s finest baseball teams. As a pitcher, he contributed to the team’s outstanding record by pitching in the rotation – earning an 8-0 record – and being a strong hitter in the batting order.
Pete played football for his father, Peddie Sports Hall of Fame Charter Member Maurice P. “Mickey” Shuman, until the 1965 season. That season, under new head coach Ed Paul, Pete led the Falcons to a 6-2 record playing quarterback on a talented squad which included other grid stars Warren McManus, Cam Vander Veer, Bob Monahan and Charlie Clark. One of the highlights of the season was a 54-6 rout of Blair, the largest margin of victory by a Peddie team till that time, in the final game of the season.
In basketball, Pete was a strong playmaker on a very talented varsity team. Like his father, Pete went on to be a three-sport athlete at Ursinus College.
