The 1945 Varsity Basketball Team
The 1945 varsity basketball team had one of the finest collections of basketball players ever to play the game for Peddie.

The returning players from the 1944 state championship had a difficult schedule to play. Under the guidance of coach Carl Geiger, the team compiled a 13-1 record over the year losing only a rematch on The Hill School’s home court.

The 1945 team repeated as the prep school state champions.

As individuals, the members achieved numerous postseason accolades. Joaquin “Molly” Molinet, one of Peddie’s finest guards in its century of basketball, was named as a First Team All-High School selection. He was lauded for his outstanding defensive ability. The Peddie News said, “It will be quite a while before we see another player like him.” Hugh “Punky” Jefferies a sophomore on the team, was a First Team All-Prep selection. He was selected for his fine ballhandling skills as well as his consistent scoring. Jefferies also played aggressive defense. Ray Forbes provided leadership and stability for the team. He was selected to the Second Team All-Prep recognition for his playmaking skills. Charlie Peke received honorable mention All-Prep recognition for his work as a Peddie Center. Charlie had to gill the center position when 1944 All-State center Fred Scheidig joined the Navy in January. John Bristor also received an All-Prep honorable mention for his ballhandling skills.
