Artificial Intelligence at Peddie
Learning in the age of AI
At Peddie, we treat Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies as a reality to navigate thoughtfully, honestly and with our students’ growth at the center. Our goal is to graduate young people who can use these tools with judgment, purpose and a strong sense of who they are.
We focus on building literacy — the kind of deep understanding that lets students make good decisions in contexts we can’t anticipate. We believe that technology should enhance, never replace, the human elements of learning: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and connection. Every use of AI at Peddie prioritizes expanding human capacity rather than substituting human effort.
Our vision is to empower our school community to understand how emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence influence intellectual, social and moral growth.
Guiding Principles

Human-Centered Learning — AI strengthens our work; it never replaces the mentorship and relationships that define a Peddie education.

Honesty & Transparency — Students and employees alike are expected to be clear about when and how AI is used.

Scholarship Excellence — We use AI to go deeper, not to go faster. Process matters more than product.

Equity & Access — Every student has access to the tools and instruction needed to develop AI literacy, regardless of background or prior experience.

Adaptability & Courage — The technology will keep changing. Our framework is designed to evolve with it.

Citizenship — We teach students to interrogate AI critically — for bias, for accuracy, for impact — and to use it as responsible members of society.
These principles reflect Peddie’s commitment to Literacy Over Policy. By developing understanding and judgment within our community, we ensure that any use of technology is in pursuit of intellectual and moral excellence.
How it Works at Peddie
Across disciplines, Peddie faculty are actively integrating AI into their teaching as a genuine lens for inquiry. This is consistent with how Peddie has always approached emerging technology: In 1993, The Peddie School became one of the first schools in the country to provide all students with a laptop, integrating technology into every aspect of education and community life before most schools had considered it. We’ll be sharing examples of our current work here as it develops.
AI Committee
Peddie’s approach to AI is developed and continuously refined by an AI Committee representing all areas of our professional community — employees and students working together to ensure our framework stays grounded, current and true to the school’s mission.
