Photography I

Terms: 1
Grades: 10, 11, 12, PG

This course introduces the basics of photography as an art form. Students learn to operate a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera and to edit in Adobe Photoshop.  Early assignments emphasize an understanding of light, composition, and the creative potential of camera functions. Later assignments explore portraiture, creating visual narrative, and street photography.  Peer critiques and frequent discussions about photographs by historical and contemporary photographers, as well as media images, provide critical feedback and inspiration. We ask students to provide their own digital SLR cameras whenever possible. (Digital SLR cameras are available for loan through the arts department).
