Basketball – Varsity Boys vs. The Hun School of Princeton
The Peddie varsity boys basketball team (12-5) defeated The Hun School of Princeton, 71-67, at home on Jan. 14.
Jordan Moton made a 3-pointer from the corner to give Peddie a 70-67 lead with 1:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. Strong Peddie defense forced a Hun turnover with 10.2 seconds left. Ethan Nelson would get fouled and made the first of two free throws for a 71-67 lead with four seconds remaining. Gabe Hornberger scored a game-high 21 points. Post-grad Sean Griffin ’26 added 20 points, including his 1,000th career point on a layup with 7:57 left in the second quarter. Josiah Broko had 13 points.
“That game demonstrated relentless resilience by us, where we didn’t play pretty well at times and played really well at other times,” Head Coach Joe Rulewich said. “We found a way to make plays at the end of the game, while coming off a tough one last Saturday at The Lawrenceville School. For Sean [Griffin], scoring 1,000 points also takes resilience, it takes time and handling pressure. We just talked about how you don’t achieve 1,000 points by yourself, you have to be lucky, you have to be talented and you have to have great teammates who are unselfish as well. We celebrated that for Sean, which was awesome.”
“It feels great and I’m really glad we could get a win out of it, too, that’s the biggest thing,” Griffin said on his 1,000th career point.
Hornberger scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half.
“Gabe played great, he really gave us a boost, especially in the first half and he continued strong in the second half and made a lot of big plays,” Griffin said. “We developed a lot of chemistry over the fall together. He’s been pushing me, I’ve been pushing him and it’s showing. We’re getting some wins out of it, too, which is great.”
