Tessa Hughes ’26

Tessa Hughes ’26 followed-up her stellar 2023-24 indoor track and field season, with breaking four school records, with another broken school record early in the 2024-25 season. During the 2024 Bishop Loughlin Games at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in December 2024, Hughes broke a school record, previously held by herself, twice, with an 8.47 qualifying time in the girls 55-meter hurdles and then an 8.39 in the finals and placed second. Hughes previously recorded an 8.53 time at the 2023 Bishop Loughlin Games. She also placed third in the girls 300-meter dash finals with a time of 41.07.

As of Feb. 2, Hughes set her ninth school record. She broke the pentathlon school record, and she wrote the long jump school record, while competing in the pentathlon at the 10th Annual Ocean Breeze Invitational.

She jumped 17-1 in the long jump while competing at the pentathlon, breaking the previous school record of 16-9 set by Louisa Kausch in 2020, according to head coach Tim Brennan. A ninth school record also sets a record for individual school record, both male and female.

It is rare that such talent prevails at a young age.”
