1994 Girls Soccer Team

The dawn of the 1990’s ushered in an unprecedented era of domination for girls soccer at Peddie and to this end the 1994 team charted a path of excellence with a nearly perfect record (16-1). Battling against the best programs from the soccer-crazed area, the Falcons had their greatness validated by being honored the “Team of the Decade” by The Trenton Times.

Head coach Ray Cabot raised the benchmark of competitiveness for the sport through hard work, creativity and an old-school passion for the game. Basking in the glow of undefeated 1993 squad (17-0-1), a core group led by four seniors (Meghan McCarthy, Joanne Levy, Sara Probasco and Courtney Wood) and a talented underclass outscored its opponents by a 103-7 margin. Their only blemish was a 2-1 setback in the waning moments against Morris Catholic. Playing a most ambitious schedule, the Falcons fashioned many shoutouts, including wins over Villa Joseph Marie, Steinert and Lawrenceville. In two opening Prep ‘A’ tournament matches Cabot’s girls won by a combined score of 20-0, before defeating Blair 7-1 in the finals.

“The ’94 team played so well as a unit that they intimidated other teams,” said Cabot. They rank as one of the most dominant teams I have ever coached.”

Lauren Sellers ’96 (55 goals), Wood (Parade All-American, The Times Player of the Decade) and Kelly Witman ’96 (38 goals) complied impressive career credentials, while goalie Stacey Bencivengo ’96 anchored an equally stalwart defense. The team and player accolades are too numerous to list here, but suffice it to say, no less than nine players went on to collegiate careers.
