Carol Ammermuller Beck, Class of 1975

Carol Ammermuller Beck, Class of 1975
Carol Ammermuller Beck ’75 was the first female athlete of the modern era at Peddie.

After Peddie returned to co-education in 1971, her freshman year, Carol asked to compete as a member of the Peddie swimming team. She was allowed to compete on the boys junior varsity against a few schools, although other schools refused to let her swim. Against Blair’s boys J.V. team in the last meet of the season, Carol won the 100-yard freestyle event. She later went on to become the first girls swimming captain when Peddie eventually created the team.

In the mid-1970s when Peddie had some of its best cross country teams Carol competed on the boys J.V. cross country team, finishing races in the middle of the pack.

Carol went on to qualify for the 1988 Olympic Marathon Trials and win several major triathlon championships.

Carol’s pioneering efforts, athletic success and commitment to excellence helped to establish the outstanding tradition of female athletes at Peddie.
