Jane Skillman, Class of 1991

Jane Skillman, Class of 1991
Jane Skillman is, without a doubt, the “winningest” swimmer and perhaps the “winningest” athlete in Peddie history. Swimming primarily the tough distance freestyle events, Jane ran off a string of more than 55 victories in her four years of Peddie swimming. She was crowned an Eastern champion seven times, including three straight 500 “free” victories, and was a high school All-American an incredible 17 times!

In 1990, Jane won United States Swimming’s Triple Crown by capturing Open National titles in the 500, 1,000, and 1,650 yard freestyle events in the same meet. Only two other swimmers in American swimming history have accomplished this feat.

In the fall of 1992, Jane and her powerful swimming credentials began her collegiate career at Stanford University.

Jane has represented the United States in international competition three times – on three different continents! She capped off her very successful senior year at Peddie by winning three gold medals in the 1990 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. If only one swimmer is singled out as the foundation of Peddie Swimming’s dominance, that swimmer is Jane Skillman.
