Mathematical marvel
Liu’s perfect performance marks an unprecedented achievement for a Peddie student; historically, only a handful of students worldwide achieve a perfect score each year.
Albert Yang ’26, Nancy Xue ’25 and Karen Yao ’24 also excelled in the AMC, each earning a coveted spot in February’s American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). Liu and Yang’s outstanding AMC performances earned them a place on the Honor Roll of Distinction, reserved for the top 1% of scorers.
The AMC is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice high school mathematics exam. The world-renowned AMC program provides a stage for students to showcase their mathematical prowess and opens doors to exclusive opportunities, including the AIME and, ultimately, the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Reflecting on Liu’s accomplishments, math teacher Tim Corica praised him as “a wonderful young man engaged in various areas at Peddie.” Last year, Liu won the school’s Calculus Award in Multivariable Calculus, making history as the first freshman to receive the award.
Corica highlighted Liu’s role as a math tutor and a teaching assistant for AP Chemistry. Notably, Liu extends his impact beyond Peddie, working virtually with students in China who are deaf or partially deaf after teaching himself sign language.
