Our enrichment program strengthens math, science and writing skills in preparation for students’ academic year ahead. Our math enrichment courses develop strong fundamental knowledge of algebra, which is directly linked to future success in precalculus and advanced mathematics coursework. Our Integrated Language Arts enrichment courses garner rave reviews from area teachers, developing and strengthening students’ reading comprehension and writing skills.
Note: Classes are not meant to build upon one another. For example, if you sign up for Algebra 2 Enrichment during the first two weeks, the same material will be covered if you sign up for a second two weeks.
Bridge the gap between middle school language arts and high school English standards. Designed for rising 7th through 8th graders, this intensive course equips students with the analytical, writing, and discussion skills needed to excel in honors and upper-level English classes. Students will dissect complex literary and informational texts, master the mechanics of strong thesis-driven essays, and refine their grammar and style. Through Harkness-style Socratic discussions and collaborative projects, students will learn to articulate and defend their ideas with confidence. In the final week, students get a hands-on head start on their official school summer reading assignment, working directly with the instructor to analyze their required text and complete associated work.
This course focuses on the study and analysis of literature, composition, and language. Students will read a variety of texts, including novels, poems, plays and short stories, and will learn how to analyze these works for themes, symbols and other literary elements. They will also learn how to write effective essays, using proper grammar and syntax, and will practice their critical thinking and communication skills. In the final week, students will work with the teacher on their personal summer reading book from their school, analyzing the text and getting a great head start on any summer reading assignment. Course requirements: Completion of 8th grade.
