Spring Rowing

Peddie fall rowing closed out the season competing in the Mercer Fall Classic at Mercer Lake.

The girls 4+ consisting of Izzy Naso (cox), Aria Shi (stroke), Anna Terhaar (3), Diya Kondapalli (2) and Veronica Simms (bow) placed second out of seven teams in the A-Final in 7:49.040. The girls 4+ consisting of Sofia Cervantes (cox), Lea Weinberger (stroke), Sophia Chopan (3), Ophelia Ni (2) and Claire Lin (bow), placed third in the same race in 8:09.584.

The girls 4+ consisting of Scarlett Liu (cox), Malia Tilton (stroke), Amelia Kunamneni (3), Abby Cohen (2) and Allison Li (bow) placed second out of four teams in the C-Final (8:45.950).
The boys 4+ consisting of Jonathan Koo (cox), Armaan Motiani (stroke), Arthava Khamparia (3), Chris Horsch (2) and Aiden Lawler (bow) placed fourth out of six teams in 7:19.101 in the A-Final.
The boys 4+ consisting of Gyuhyun Kim (cox), Francis McGovern (stroke), Ayaan Nagarkatti (3), Mustafa Ekmekci (2) and Ryan Yan (bow) placed second out of six teams in the B-Final (7:39.233). The boys 4+ consisting of Frost Gill (cox), Tevin Zhou (stroke), Neal Patel (3), Douglas Lopez (2) and Charles White (bow) placed fourth in the same race in 7:45.434.

Peddie fall rowing competed in the Mercer Challenge at Caspersen Rowing Center.

Last year, the girls boats finished second, fourth, seventh and ninth in the 4+/4X+ event.

This year, the first boat was a full minute faster than Mercer’s first boat, and the second boat was a solid 30 seconds ahead of them as well for a dominant 1-2 finish.

The girls A 4x+ consisting of Izzy Naso (c, Aria Shi (4), Anna Terhaar (3), Diya Kondapalli (2), and Veronica Simms (B) placed first out of 10 teams in 18:43.1. The B 4X+ consisting of Sofia Cervantes (c, Lea Weinberger (4), Sophia Chopan (3), Ophelia Ni (2) and Claire Lin (B) placed second in the race in 19:11.4. The C 4x+ consisting of Scarlett Liu (c, Abby Cohen (4), Malia Tilton (3), Amelia Kunamneni (2) and Allison Li (B) placed ninth in the race (21:41.1). The 8+ consisting of Umay Sen (c, Malia Tilton (8), Charlotte Jones (7), Zoe Maki (6), Cirah Spurlock-Shackleton (5), Olive Ahn (4), Kim Juarez Escamilla (3), Rachel Jeon (2), and Shriya Gutta (B) finished fourth out of four teams (21:06.2). Malia Tilton doubled up so the rest of the team could race as well.

For the boys, the A 4x consisting of Armaan Motiani (4), Atharva Khamparia (3), Chris Horsch (2), Aidan Lawler (1) and Jonathan Koo (c placed sixth out of 10 teams 17:38.0. B 4X consisting of Tevin Zhou (4), Neal Patel (3), Doug Lopez (2), Charles White (1) and Frost Gil (c placed 10th in the race in 19:11.4. The 8+ sported a new lineup and finished seventh out of nine teams in 17:51.1, consisting of Tony Kim (c, Francis McGovern (8), Eeshan Garikapati (7), Griffin Truslow (6), Fred Sullivan (5), Mustafa Ekmekcki (4), Chris Horsch (3), Ayaan Nagarkatti (2) and Ryan Yan (1). Chris Horsch went directly from his 4x to join the 8+.

The Falcons next close out the fall season and compete in the Mercer Fall Classic on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Caspersen Rowing Center.

Peddie fall rowing competed in the 55th Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The boys team split the team into the JV and Varsity High School Coxed Quad events for racing; both of those events had 13 or more entries. Against club programs and High schools as far away as Canada, the varsity 4x consisting of 4 Armaan Motiani, 3 Atharva Khamparia, 2 Chris Horsch, 1 Aidan Lawler and C Jonathan Koo, placed eighth out of the 13 entered boats. Earlier in the day, our JV A 4x consisting of 4 Tevin Zhou, 3 Neal Patel, 2 Doug Lopez, 1 Charles White and C Frost Gill placed eighth. The B 4+ consisting of 4 Francis McGovern, 3 Ayaan Nagarkatti, 2 Mustafa Ekmekci, 1 Ryan Yan and C Tony Kim placed seventh out of the 14 entered
boats. After getting caught behind some other crews and unable to pass, the JV A 4x were not able to put their full speed on display.

Both girls coxed quads finished fourth. The 4X+ consisted of C Izzy Naso, 4 Aria Shi, 3 Anna Terhaar, 2 Diya Kondapalli and B Veronica Simms. The other 4X+ consisted of C Sofia Cervantes, 4 Lea Weinberger, 3 Sophia Chopan, 2 Ophelia Ni and B Claire Lin. The 3V finished 13th, consisting of C Scartlett Liu, 4 Abby Cohen, 3 Malia Tilton, 2 Amelia Kunamneni and B Allison Li.

The Falcons next compete in the Mercer Classic on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Caspersen Rowing Center.

Peddie fall girls rowing opened the fall season and competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the Women’s Youth Coxed Quad event, starting as Bow No. 30, the girls fought hard and maintained their position, placing 30th out of 51 entries. They passed several boats early in the head racing format and they steered an excellent course through the many bridges. These Falcons — Izzy Naso coxing, with rowers Aria Shi, Anna Terhaar, Diya Kondapalli and Veronica Simms — raced with heart in the beautiful autumn weather. The temperature was in the 50-60 degree-range in the morning with lots of sunshine.

The Falcons next compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
