The Peddie varsity rowing team competed against Lawrenceville School for the Brown Cup at Caspersen Rowing Center.

Lawrenceville retained The Brown Cup a points trophy contested between both the girls and boys crews on each team. The Falcons won the Boys’ Novice 8+. They had an impressive one length early lead and fought to keep it to the finish as Lawrenceville tried unsuccessfully to close the gap. In the Boys’ 3V race, Peddie led for the first 1K until a crab caused a rower to have their seat pop off the tracks which stopped them for over 10 seconds.

The Falcons next compete in the Garden State Scholastic Championships on Saturday, April 26 at Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.

The Peddie varsity rowing team competed in the first day of the Mercer Lake Sprints at Caspersen Rowing Center.

While the girls’ crews missed qualifying for Sunday’s finals, most everyone had the opportunity to race twice, doubling in different events and gaining valuable race experience.

The girls team competed in the Women’s Varsity 4+, second Varsity 4+, third Varsity 4+, U17 4+ and Novice 8+.

The boys’ crews missed qualifying for Sunday’s finals. The Falcons competed in the Men’s Varsity 4+, second Varsity 4+, third Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+.

The Falcons next compete in the Brown Cup vs. Lawrenceville School on Thursday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Caspersen Rowing Center.

The Peddie varsity rowing team opened the season competing against Blair Academy in Battle of the Blades at Mercer Lake. Conditions: 8-12 MPH headwind. Cloudy, 49 degrees. Quite rowable.

Battle of the Blades is Peddie’s traditional dual with Blair. Wind has been the reason it has been canceled the last two years. The Hill School also joined racing, though they did not count toward the points trophy. Blair won the trophy by virtue of winning seven of the eight possible events. The Peddie boys 1V defeated Blair, in a come-from-behind victory with a sprint to the finish line.

Comments:
Racing was quick and compact with guys from the 4+ going directly into the 8+ to race. It was a
great experience to get as much of the team on the water and racing as possible against the tough competition of Mercer, a very large club team and Lawrenceville. The boys posted some good
times in line-ups that were pretty much new to all of them with close margins especially in the
4+ event. It was a solid afternoon of racing to cap off an amazing Fall season;

Redemption! A mere 1.9 seconds behind Mercer in the 4+/4X+ event, our A boat rowed their fastest time of the fall (and for many years) to finish a close second on our home 4500m course. There were no leaves slowing them down today! Our B boat was not far behind in fourth. Our C and D boats also raced well to seventh and ninth place in this annual Caspersen Rowing Center intra-boathouse event. Half of the team raced a
second time in an eight, brushing off their sweep rowing skills for spring. Mercer, a large club program, was Peddie’s primary competition. It was a solid afternoon of racing to close a successful fall season.

A chilly morning starting out in Philadelphia and developing into a beautiful day on the Schuylkill River. We split the team into the JV and Varsity School Fours events for racing; both of those events had 60 or more entries. Against club programs and high schools as far away as Canada, our varsity 4+ placed 36th out of the 60 entered boats. Later in the day, our JV A 4+
placed 24th and our B 4+ placed 38th out of the 62 entered boats. All the crews raced well and
showed the incredible depth of the team. One more chance to challenge themselves with the

Comments:

Another beautiful fall day in Philadelphia, though it got off to a chilly start. We split the team into the JV and Varsity high school coxed quads for the Head of the Schuylkill. In a much larger field, our JVA boat finished fifth and our JVB boat 10th, both rowing strong and clean over the 4K course. Margins from first place were much closer than at Navy Day. The Varsity 4X+ was also on track to a solid performance until a bunch of soggy autumn leaves got caught on their rudder, and control over steering was lost. Valiantly finishing the race without running into a bridge or another crew, this boat will have to wait until next Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Mercer Challenge at Caspersen Rowing Center to see what it can do.
