1974-1975 Boys Outdoor Track & Field Team

1974-1975 Boys Outdoor Track & Field Team
Competing just one year after the underdrafted 1973-1974 team they now join in the Hall, the 1974-1975 varsity boys outdoor track and field team borrowed a few of its returning athletes, but ultimately boasted a distinctive roster and a distinguished record that were very much its own.

Although an out-of-state loss to still all-male Hill deprived them if a perfect season, the 1974-’75 squad may well have been Peddie’s most perfectly balanced team in the excellence across the full spectrum of weights, jumps and hurdles, and with their individual and relay racing prowess at all distances. Overpowering New Jersey rivals in dual competition, they ran away with one championship title after another and leaving runner-up Lawrence 20 points behind in the dust in their way to the New Jersey Prep crown.

Jay Bolnick, John Livingood, John Nealy and Doug Spatz were brilliant in the shot put and javelin, while captain Brian Cooke, Dave ‘the Rave’ Hill, John Poling, Mike Price and Steve ‘Stork’ Ranson combined and recombined to dominate the sprint and distance relays. And all season long, Mike Price was everywhere – sprinting and leaping to first-place medals and new records before stealing the show with a triple-gold performance at the state meet.

We celebrate the 1974-1975 varsity boys outdoor track and field team for their role in cementing the mid-1970s as an Age of Gold and Blue for Peddie Track and Field.
