There are so many opportunities that I can get here that I am not able to get anywhere else.
Tour guide Lexie shares how joining an athletic team at Peddie can open up your world in ways you never expected, as well as sharpen your time-management skills.
As a two-sport varsity athlete at Peddie, I have definitely learned a lot. But entering Peddie, I had never played field hockey before. I joined the JV team my freshman year to try something new. I ended up making the varsity team my second year and I was brought into a whole new community to be a part of. I have found a new group of friends that I never would have made otherwise. I have learned how to be a better teammate and friend, and how to manage my time with my busy athletics schedules to make sure everything gets done. Most importantly, I have learned so much about leadership from my coaches and captains before me, and I am excited to set a good example for my younger teammates.
Being an athlete at Peddie can definitely be a challenge sometimes, especially with Peddie’s academic rigor, but it is all worth it. The feeling of participating in Blair Day is one that can’t be described in words; it is just truly something you have to discover for yourself. Finding a community that goes beyond words, into trust and excitement and passion for one mutual goal, is something that I didn’t expect to find here. I have learned to push myself outside of my comfort zone and to try new things.
Also, getting to know your coaches is one of the best things I have learned through athletics because not only have I found people who believe in me and care about me as an athlete and as a student, but I have also learned how to lean on those around me and trust that they know how to make me my best self. Heading into my senior year as a captain, I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team for one last year and get to spend it with all of my best friends.
