Nate’s Guide for New Students: Top 5 Pieces of Advice

Tour Guide Nates shares how to get the most out of Peddie by getting out of your comfort zone, being open to new experiences and, most importantly, having fun.

Getting Ready to Come to Peddie and Embracing it

Before classes even kick off, there’s something you should know. Peddie is what you make it, so make it yours! Spend time with new people, learn something new and make meaningful memories. Peddie is more than just a school; it’s a community, it’s a home and it’s yours.

Put Yourself Out There

My most important piece of advice would be to put yourself out there and not be afraid. Coming to a new school can be challenging, but it’s important to try new things and meet new friends. One thing that helped me do that was joining clubs. From food clubs to religious groups, Peddie has a club for you to help you meet new people.

Ask Questions

The first few weeks at Peddie are full of exciting, challenging, meaningful moments that sometimes raise questions. In the classrooms, teachers are a great source of information and are always willing to meet with you after class to answer questions, but who should you ask when it’s not about academics? While classmates are always a good choice, they might not know everything about Peddie yet (they will), so it might be helpful to talk to your prefect, teammate, fellow cast member or any older Falcon you see. Asking questions helped me learn about others, myself and the history of Peddie!

Show Spirit

One of the most important aspects of Peddie culture is school spirit. Whether you wear black at a basketball game to match the team’s theme, go all out for Blair Week or put the effort into your costumes and chants, spirit always makes the moment more special. Wear that crazy wig, put on your Halloween costumes, wear Blue and Gold at Blue and Gold chapel! Participating in Saturday Night Activities like food and games in the Grille or Movies in the Masland room is another great way to show up and show spirit.

Be Yourself

At the end of the day, Peddie is special because of the students. Being yourself and doing what you do best will ultimately make your experience and the community of Peddie better. If you are a big athlete, go out and play your best. If you are a robotics mastermind, go out and code the coolest robot out there. Peddie runs because each student creates such a unique community at this place, so do what you do best!
