Academics

Catherine Rodrigue joined Peddie in 2001 and is currently the associate head of school. Catherine has also served as assistant head of school and academic dean. She proposed and coordinated implementation of Peddie’s Signature Experience Program, developed a robust professional growth initiative and cultivated a collaborative professional culture. Catherine sets agendas for and leads Peddie’s Curriculum Committee, led two accreditation studies, and is a member of the Head of School’s Planning Committee. She resides on campus. Prior to joining Peddie, she taught English, history, and the humanities at several other institutions. Rodrigue has a history degree from University of Georgia and a master’s degree in English from University of Virginia.

Kurt Bennett joined Peddie’s English Department in 2012. A graduate of Amherst College and Middlebury College, Bennett taught humanities at Culver Academies before joining Peddie. He shares dorm duty in Mariboe Dormitory. Bennett resides on campus with his wife, Bryn (admission).

Alison Hogarth joined Peddie’s History Department in 2006 after nine years of teaching history at the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, taking the helm as department chair in 2017. Hogarth introduced the government program to the department, which now offers Intro to Government, AP Government and American Legal Systems, and also worked to develop the Modern Global curriculum. Hogarth served as co-chair of the school’s accreditation process from 2014-2016. As a teacher in residence, Hogarth organizes student elections, serves on the Disciplinary Committee and officiates as head timer for varsity basketball and field hockey. Hogarth lives on campus and is part of the Coleman Dormitory faculty team.

Alan Michaels joined the Peddie community in 1998. He currently serves as chair of the Arts Department and director of music. He also continues to perform on Broadway as a professional musician. Alan and his wife live on campus and have three children.

“Students in the arts develop fundamental life skills. From time management to organization, students, through art, become better in every subject. Music and the arts do that.”

Jennifer Morgan joined Peddie’s Science Department in 2016 and became department chair in 2020. She graduated with degrees in biology and educational leadership and has prior experience teaching high school biology. Morgan assists Peddie’s PEST club and coaches junior varsity cross country. She is a member of the Potter North Dorm faculty team and resides on campus with her family.

After teaching for eight years in Spain, José Ruiz joined Peddie in 2003, and is currently chair of the Language Department. He lives on campus with his wife, Rocio, who serves as residential faculty in Masters Dormitory and their two falcons, Elia Ruiz ’23 and Liam Ruiz ’25.Ruiz coaches cross country and indoor track and serves as a student advisor. He has spent several summers as a program director with the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy summer program, where he helps high school students fully immerse themselves in a foreign culture. Ruiz strives to spark students’ cultural curiosity in his language classes.

Gregory Koch joined Peddie’s Mathematics Department in 2019. Gregory received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Austin College and his master’s degree in computer science from the University of Toronto. He formerly taught pre-algebra through calculus at Great Hearts Academies in Chandler, Ariz. In addition to his classroom duties, Koch also coaches programming as part of Peddie’s Robotics Team. He is part of Austen Colgate’s Dormitory faculty and resides on campus.
